CNBC: Airlines will return to profitability in 2023

The global airline industry is set to return to profitability again next year following a near-three year downturn, an industry body said Tuesday.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said it expects the industry to post a “small” net profit of $4.7 billion in 2023, with more than 4 billion passengers set to take to the skies.”

″[There’s] still a long way to go to get back to where we were in 2019, but we are heading in the right direction,” director general Willie Walsh told CNBC.

IATA: Passenger Recovery Continues in November in 2022

Geneva - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that the air travel recovery continued through November 2022.

Total traffic in November 2022 (measured in revenue passenger kilometers or RPKs) rose 41.3% compared to November 2021. Globally, traffic is now at 75.3% of November 2019 levels.

International traffic rose 85.2% versus November 2021. The Asia-Pacific continued to report the strongest year-over-year results with all regions showing improvement compared to the prior year. November 2022 international RPKs reached 73.7% of November 2019 levels.

Geneva - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has launched the fourth edition of the IATA Air Cargo Innovation Awards to recognize new solutions, concepts and ideas that contribute to air logistics’ digitalization, sustainability, safety and security. “Innovation holds the key to development, sustainability and success in the air cargo industry and we are committed to recognizing and unlocking its potential. The latest edition of the IATA Air Cargo Innovation Awards supports this objective with more than US $20,000 to the winners. Imagination is the only limit to the range of ideas that can be submitted. Based on our past competitions, we expect to see a plethora of creative solutions,” said Brendan Sullivan, IATA’s Global Head of Cargo.

The EES system will be a game changer for how the EU’s borders are managed.
